Everyone loves a parade and you can be in this one! Buena Vista’s hometown July 4th Main Street parade celebrates our nation’s birthday with the patriotism, character, and charm. One and ALL in our community, businesses, and organizations are invited to participate in the parade. Decorate your transportation and deck yourself up in festive red, white and blue, then walk, bike, create a float, drive an antique car, ride a horse or ATV. Be creative, don’t just come as you are, our parade is part of a celebration, make it fun – unique and eye-catching!
You must sign a release to participate. Each individual on a float must sign a release form, groups can use one form and have people sign on back if you’d like. You can download the release or pick one up in front of the courthouse on parade day. Bring the release with you and turn it in when you enter the parade in front of BV Heritage Museum (old courthouse). Call 719-395-6612 with any questions.
The parade starts at 10 am, Wednesday, July 4th on Main Street in front BV Heritage Museum (old courthouse) and side roads and proceeds west on Main Street to San Juan. Lineup starts at 9:00 am. You need to be in line by 9:30 am. Officials near the Museum will instruct you where to go. You will be given an index card while lining up (or check with the person at the corner for one). On this card please write down who you are and a brief description of your parade entry, then hang on to it until a bit later in the parade. At 10 am the parade will start, please follow directions on when to enter the parade line. You will hand your completed release forms to the official in front of museum (courthouse) while entering the parade. You will not be allowed to enter the parade without a release. Along the parade route, before you get to the grandstand which is located just east of Town Hall near the railroad tracks, you will be asked to turn over your index card to a runner. The announcer will read the information on your card as you pass by the grandstand.
Due to safety concerns, please do not toss candy from a vehicle or float. Please feel free to have some walk alongside and hand candy to children along the route. No racing cars or other dangerous acts that could cause harm to spectators or fellow parade participants.
There is no charge to be in the parade but please consider donating to help keep this patriotic 4th of July Parade and the fun kids games in the park going. This event is hosted by the Buena Vista Chamber of Commerce & Visitor Center. We are funded by our chamber members and special events so your support is appreciated.
