Greetings Chamber Members:

The trees are just starting to bud but the town is already bustling with activity.  We believe this will be the best summer season ever for our local business.  Construction on Highway 24 continues to create hardships for businesses along the highway corridor.  It may be a more difficult to get to them right now, but we encourage you to make an extra effort to shop and eat with them.  CDOT is still saying a June completion, our fingers are crossed. One of the  benefits and a necessity in a small community is for businesses to support each other.

May 1st is the launch date for the Buena Vista Geocaching Journey.  We are so excited about this new year-round event. We are always looking for ways to promote tourism in the shoulder season and this event will do that. Participants are able to earn prizes by finding the hidden caches and purchasing food, lodging, or adventure from a participating local business.  Our prizes are unique leather items made by the Buena Vista Correctional Industries .  A big thank you to them. Check it out or better yet give it a try!

We renewed the Chambers lease on our office aka “The Church” with the Town of Buena Vista for 5 years at $20/year.  We appreciate their support.  The BV Chamber and Visitor Center does not receive any funding from the Town, County or State.  The Chamber is funded only by membership dues, events and donations.

The Chamber is continuing to upgrade our existing literature and creating new items, including a new membership benefit brochure and a beautiful new wedding brochure.  The new marketing material all has consistant branding and colorful, professional designs.  Let us know if you like them as much as we do.

Is your business or an organization you are a member of holding an event this summer?  Be sure to submit it to the Chambers online calendar of events.

The BV Chamber of Commerce has offered it’s support and assistance to the new event 14er Fest .  This shoulder season event will be held 9/29 – 10/1.  The Fest will include skills clinics, gear demos, group outings, guided excursions, live music, guest speakers, film screenings and more.

We hope you have had the chance to look at the 2017 Visitor and Relocation Guide.  The guides are distributed throughout Colorado.  We are hand delivering as many guides as possible to save on shipping cost.  If you are able to help by dropping some guides off when you are visiting or have an appointment out of town please give us a call, we would appreciate your help. Let us know if you need guides to distribute at your business.

The Chamber held a photo contest for photos for the Visitors Guide.  There were three winners this year.  The two photo winners on the cover were by Ashley Ahlene & Ryan Wiegman, the calendar spread winner photo is by Joe & Kimmie Randall of Digital Art Co. Below is their amazing calendar spread photo.

THANK YOU TBK Bank  for hosting April’s Business After Hours.  We enjoyed a terrific turnout, delicious food and good conversation.

Interested in hosting Business After Hours?  There are host openings for the July and November Business After Hours.  It is held the 3rd Thursday of every month from 5pm-7pm. This is a great way to showcase your business by inviting other members & guests to learn about what you offer and take a tour of your business.

The CCVB (Chaffee County Visitor Bureau) is funded by the counties lodging tax and does a great job at promoting our county and the Chamber works with them closely  representing Buena Vista.  Kathi Perry serves on their board. They recently launched a new website.  Their facebook page is up 110% since this same time last year.  They have produced amazing videos of the area which have were viewed 478,520 times in March.  They report that the lodging tax is down some but that Salida and Buena Vista sales tax are up.

Thank you Wilderness Aware Rafting for being a sponsor of the Buena Vista Geocaching Journey.
