Summer has arrived in Buena Vista.  The Chamber, along with the town, is bustling with activity.  Our Visitor Center, totally managed and supported by the Chamber, welcomes and provides local business information to thousands of visitors each year.  It’s a big task, but we believe it is vital to the tourism-related economic growth in our area to provide this important service.  We couldn’t do it without the help of our amazing volunteers and support of the Chamber members.

It’s that time of year when you will be receiving your invoice for your Chamber membership renewal for July 1, 2017, to June 30, 2018.   Our team here at the Chamber works hard to provide quality, beneficial services to our membersWe value and appreciate your membership in the Chamber.  We are always looking for ways to better meet your needs and partner with you.   I’d love the chat with you about how the Chamber can continue to support you and hear your suggestions.  Please email me at or call me at 395-6612 and we will setup a time to meet.

4th of July is coming up soon.  We are so proud of our patriotic, family-friendly, community July 4th celebration that the Chamber puts on each year.  We invite you to participate in the parade on the 4th, either as a business or individual, you can sign-up on-line.  All participants do need to complete a release.  It has been suggested that we charge for parade participation, as is done in most communities.  However, we have decided to leave it free again this year.  We do appreciate donations to help off-set the cost of managing the parade.  You can register, donate, download the release form and find out details about the events on our website.

Citizen of the Year.  If there a member of our community you feel deserves this honor, please nominate them.  Send an email to with their name and a description of why you feel they should be our 2017 Citizen of the Year.  With so many outstanding, giving members in our community it may be hard to narrow down your choice to just one, but think hard and let us know.  The winner will be honored at the Chambers Gala this fall.

Board Members for the Buena Vista Chamber of Commerce and Visitor Center.  We will soon be electing new board members.  If you are interested in supporting the Chamber in this capacity please let us know.

The 2017 Buena Vista Gold Rush Days is August 12th and 13th.  Our vendor booths are filling up and we have a terrific line-up of entertainment in place.  Check out the entertainment and activity schedule on our Gold Rush Days page.  We still need sponsors, give us a call to find out how your business can receive terrific exposure and support one of our major events.

The ATV Historic Color Tour is Sept. 19 – 23.  This fun shoulder season event has been designed to showcase the beauty of our area and bring additional business to our members.  Participants from across the country attend this event and so can you, register on-line to attend this years Tour.  We are seeking business sponsors for this event.  Your business will receive recognition and exposure on the event marketing.  Give us a call to discuss sponsorship opportunities.  Thanks to the Branding Iron and Rustic Woods who have already signed on as event sponsors.

The Barn at Sunset Ranch is a dream that is becoming a reality. After several years of prayer and planning, Jim and Jayme Greenfield will be opening a 4300 square foot barn venue that can be used for weddings, receptions, parties, prom, etc. Construction on the venue will begin soon with hopes of being completed fall of 2017. The Barn will be complete with a 2400 square foot reception/dance area, a bridal suite and groom room, men’s and women’s restrooms and a small kitchen. A meadow complete with bench seating, a wedding arch and beautiful views of Mt Princeton will also be available. High Country Party Rental (HCPR)

High Country Party Rental offers tents, tables, and chairs for any event… weddings, festivals, community events, birthdays and graduation parties, or any celebration!  They also have two bouncy houses, cotton candy, popcorn machines, a hotdog cooker and much more.  Everything you need to make your party amazing. They offer delivery and setup in Lake and Chaffee Counties and surrounding communities.

Brian and Erin Wenzel purchased HCPR in the fall of 2016.  They have been visiting Buena Vista since the early 2000’s.  In the summer of 2015, they decided to move from Denver, making BV their new home.  They love that BV is such a great place to raise their 3-year-old twin daughters.

Byron Brown has owned and operated Browns Canyon Rafting going on 6 years. Although they are a seasonal business and are just here just here in the summer, they love the area and want to have a more active role in the community.

BVEC was formed when a group of actors from a melodrama in Buena Vista decided to work toward raising awareness and support for a venue that would be more suitable for performance and visual art than what is available at present.  Perhaps you’ve seen the little hot dog cart that they used to raise BVEC funds.  They did that for two summers. 

Then Central Colorado Performing Arts Center took the group under their wing, allowing them to purchase a large trailer that was refurbished to be a stage.  It now sits on the back lot of the Watershed building at 409 Main Street.  The first performance was Open Mic Night on May 20, 2017. 

In collaboration with Watershed, the stage will be the venue for many family-oriented events through summer. Events include the BVEC Dog Show and the July 1st BVEC Car Show on Main Street.  The BVEC summer schedule is available at the W a t e r s h e d.

It is their hope that they eventually will have a real stage with walls, ceiling, auditorium seating, and a good sound system for our many talented people in this community.

BV Storage Units

Thomas and Jacy Doumas have recently opened BV Storage Units.  There are two facilities: the units at 602 Cedar (Cedar and Beldan) currently have 8 x 10 and 10 x 20 units available, the units at 101 Tailwinds (corner of County Rd 320 and Tailwinds) just south of the airport off CR 319 currently have 10 x 15, 10 x 20, and 10 x 25 available.  They offer storage units in many sizes, as well as parking spaces for your campers, RVs, heavy equipment, etc. You can reserve a unit online or give them a call.

Jenne Andrews is the owner/operation of an event planning business in Manhattan, Kansas and now owner of The Cardinal Nest since November 2016.  She would like to see this beautiful mountain home used for family and friends to gather for celebrations, relaxing and fun times together.  A perfect location for bridal parties in preparation for their mountain weddings, girlfriend trips to the local hot springs, and close to many year-round sporting opportunities.

The Colorado Health Foundation

The Colorado Health Foundation is a state wide foundation with a mission to improve the health of Coloradoans.  They take their job seriously to understand the strengths, issues, concerns and opportunities of communities throughout the state.  Connecting with businesses through local chambers of commerce provides an important perspective to their work.  As the community’s employers they believe you see and feel the impact quite directly when the populations is or isn’t it’s healthiest.  They hope to build new partnerships and identify common interest and shared goals with organizations in our community.
