Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays at 10am until September 1st.
For the summer of 2019, BVEC is partnering with the Heritage Museum to offer a historical walking tour of Buena Vista. The purpose is to help raise funds for the cupola restoration, sponsor community events, and celebrate our local history.
“Buckskin Tom” will lead groups of people on a one and-a-half mile journey into the past. The exploration, mining, and railroad history of the late 1800’s will come alive as the group passes along historical buildings that housed many famous (and infamous) characters that called BV home. Tours begins at the Heritage Museum, then pass historical buildings along Main Street and wind around the park ensuring a pleasant and accurate historical journey for visitors.
After a short talk about the famous people who make up Buena Vista’s heritage, the tour resumes back down Main Street. The group is rewarded by visiting the inside of a famous Colorado landmark, frequented by all kinds of famous politicians, ladies of the night, outlaws, and townspeople.
The journey ends at the W a t e r s h e d on the BVEC stage. This just happens to be where one of the most historical and active sites in the county is located. The guides guarantee that the visitors will learn more about the history of Buena Vista than most of the locals are aware of.
The tour costs only $15 per person or $30 for a family, and takes place most Thursdays, Fridays, and Sundays during the summer. Along the one and-a-half hour walk people are able to visit restrooms if needed and the route is wheel chair accessable. Call 719-395-5786 or 719-966-9143 for more information.
And by the way…don’t take offense when “Buckskin Tom” starts complaining about Modern Man. He’s from the 1880’s and he doesn’t always understand why we do the things we do.
