Turner Farm will kick off their Friday evening concert series, “Music and Memories”, with music by Barb Maxey. Entertainment will start playing at 6 PM this Friday, August 7th at the Turner Farm, 829 West Main. Admission is by donation to Buena Vista Heritage 501c3. Suggested donation is $10 per person.
This will be the first in a series of Friday Evening concerts to help support Buena Vista Heritage museums because their regular indoor programs had to be cancelled. Since the July 4th “ Music and Memories” concert at Turner Farm was well received there will now be concerts at the Farm every Friday through September. Buena Vista Heritage is thankful to the many Local musicians who have have offered their talents to help the museums stay open.
Guests are asked to bring chairs and a picnic dinner if desired and enjoy the music while social distancing on Turner Farm’ and Orchard’s beautiful two acres. Masks will be required for entrance to Turner Farm and no dogs or alcoholic beverages are allowed.
Barb Maxey will start her show at 6 PM playing on the porch of the historic Turner farmhous. She performs a mix of jazzy blues, 60-70’s, gospel & country music with a rhythmic feel, incorporating bass lines, chords and lead guitar. Her voice gives a moving, heart felt rendition of the song being sung.
Barb was a semi-finalist in 2008 & 2005 International Blues Challenge competition in Memphis, TN in the solo/duo category, sent by Blues Blow Torch Society and Central Illinois Blues respectively. She won the Blues Challenge Peoples’ Choice in October 2004, in the solo/duo category.
Barb’s CD, Zamar, is produced by multi-gold record producer, Lynn Nichols. Bongo Boys Records signed Barb, playing several songs on several different compilation cd’s world wide.
Barb grew up in a family of professional musicians studying classical music, first on the piano and then the violin. She picked up the guitar when she was 12 yrs.old, teaching herself. Early 70’s, late 60’s music and blues were a strong musical influence, especially BB King, James Taylor, Eric Clapton, Bonnie Raitt & Santana.
Turner Farm’s next concert will be Friday, August 14th featuring another popular local musician, Carin Mari , winner of eight Colorado Country music awards. The gate will open at 5:30, music starts a 6 PM. For more information visit Buenavistaheritage.org
