FOR EXPERIENCED ROCK CLIMBERS

LAUNCH YOUR TRAINING FOR BECOMING A PROFICIENT TRAD CLIMBER

This course is designed for the experienced rock climber who wants to learn about leading traditional rock climbs. Participants will review gear placements and anchoring systems before “mock” leading a traditional rock climb. Participants will receive feedback on gear placements, anchors, movement, and rope-management strategies. No experience with gear placements is necessary for this course but participants should know how to belay, rappel, construct basic rock climbing anchors using bolted anchors, and feel comfortable top-roping 5.8 outdoors. Both the Introduction to Top Rope Anchors and the Introduction to Sport Climbing courses are recommended prerequisites. This course will take place at either Bob’s Rock or Monitor Rock and will be taught by an AMGA Rock Guide.

  • Review anchor building concepts

  • Demonstrate how to safely and efficiently place active and passive protection

  • Demonstrate how to a lead or mock-lead a traditional climb

  • Summarize the hazards associated with leading traditional rock climbs
