Vulcan Glass Art Studio – classes, art shows, and events
Vulcan Glass Art Studio is a boutique glass studio recently re-located to Buena Vista, Colorado. Artist Barry Stevens began his glassblowing career in 2008 after apprenticing in the Chicago area. He specializes in lampworking using borosilicate glass and draws much of his inspiration from nature. Techniques he uses include fuming, compression work, implosion, and blown glass art. His work has progressed from compression beads to a full line of pendants, sculptures, paperweights, dishes, vases, carafes, wine stoppers, and marbles. His Buena Vista studio is equipped with several torch stations, full ventilation, oxygen delivery system, glass lathe, and a supply of glass tubing for any lamp-working project.
While in Chicago, Stevens was accepted into numerous prestigious juried art shows, including the Chicago Botanic Gardens Art Fair, Catigny Art in Bloom, and the Geneva Fine Arts Fair. At every art show, Stevens demonstrates glass blowing using a portable bench. During his demonstration, he describes the steps he takes to make an art piece. He typically draws large crowds of interested art fans.
Stevens’ artwork was accepted by the Illinois Artisans Program and has been on display in Chicago at the James R. Thompson Center. He won an Award of Excellence at the Deerfield Art Show in 2014 and a Second Place Award at the Cantigny Art Fair in 2013. His art was shown in January 2013 at the Fine Line Creative Arts Center in St. Charles in a juried glass and metals show titled, “Molten.” Stevens’ marbles have also been on display in the Modern Marbles Exhibit at Indigenous, A Handcrafted Gallery in Cincinnati, Ohio.
His business location in Buena Vista is a studio large enough to accommodate classes and groups. For local glass artists, there is also the option of renting time at the studio. All information about classes, art shows, and events can be found on his website: www.vulcanglassstudio.com
