The annual ATV Historic Color Tour takes place Sept 19 -23, in Buena Vista, Colorado. Participants from around the country come to this off-road rally to visit the area’s old mining sites and ghost towns on self-guided OHV tours. Ride to near the top of a 14,000-foot mountain, cross the Continental Divide, and take in the fall colors as the Aspen trees change to “gold”. The rides are self-guided…start when you want, travel at your own pace and quit when you want. There are several ‘outriders’ on each route to aid and give information. Visit mining ghost towns, see some of the old buildings, travel in the footsteps of history as you ride over mountain passes that once carried gold and silver ore by mule wagons to the railroads below. Rides, breakfasts, pig roast, T-shirt, ATV rodeo and a poker run are all included.
Things start happening on Tuesday evening at the “packet pick-up”. Detailed information, tickets you will need, T-shirts, etc. are all in your packet and one-on-one briefings are held to answer questions.
Each morning of the Tour a breakfast will be served at the American Legion Hall 338 N. Railroad, Buena Vista. At breakfast participants sign up for their choice of the available rides. The ride list changes each day. This is a terrific way to get to know the local outriders and learn more about the community and area ATV rides. On Saturday, everyone is invited to the Poker Run and the Saturday evening dinner featuring a fun pig roast, rodeo and more. There are no discounts or refunds for any meals not attended.
