Holiday Home Tour
Christmas Opening will be December 5th. The Chocolate Walk will start that morning when businesses open. The equine parade will be at 2:00 followed by the Festival of the Trees. The parade of lights will be at 5:30. It is a great finale to the day but we need more floats in it.
The Holiday Home Tour will be December 13th . So far we have four homes, Arkansas Valley Art Center and possibly Trails West for the reception. We are looking for a fifth house. If you know of someone that might be interested, have them contact us.
I will send out specific information about the Chocolate Walk and Christmas parades about mid-November.

Colorado Adventure Rentals

Hi, I'm Darrell Stevens, owner of Colorado Adventure Rentals. When I sold my electrical business and “retired” I left the Midwest to travel around and explore the country. I was excited to make Almont home, in part because of the great ATV riding in the area. Because of the proximity to great trails and the lack of ATV rentals in our area, I decided to start this company to share my passion with visitors and locals alike.
ATVs and snowmobiles are a great way to see areas that are otherwise only accessible by foot or horse. I love to hike, camp, fish and hunt and our vehicles allow me to experience the best that Colorado has to offer.
We are based in Gunnison, Colorado with rental locations in Taylor Park and Lake City. Alternative pick up and delivery locations may be available in Gunnison, Almont and others depending on length of rental, availability and time of year. Our location is ideal for accessing a variety of trails, from the high alpine experiences in Crested Butte and Taylor Park to the high desert environment of Gunnison, Almont and the Blue Mesa area.
Colorado Central Magazine
P. O Box 946 Salida, Co 81201 530-9063
Owner: Mike Rosso
Colorado Central is a small regional monthly magazine founded in 1994 by Martha and Ed Quillen of Salida, Colorado. In February 2009 it was purchased by Mike Rosso, also of Salida, thus relieving the Quillens of the monthly deadline they've been facing for 15 years as well as providing them the opportunity to give their home a thorough cleaning. Now Mike has taken on the monthly deadlines, and everything else. Please give him a heads up before dropping by so he can at least clear a path for you.
The goal is to continue publishing an interesting and informative magazine which builds a sense of place, a regional community, and a local culture in Central Colorado and the San Luis Valley.
We like good writing about the places we care about, and we're blessed that there are many good writers in this part of the world.
The best way to understand the magazine is to read it. If you're in our territory, your local bookstore should have copies for sale at $2.95 (both Tattered Covers' in Denver also carry it).You can also peruse our archives on the website, and examine a past edition in Adobe Portable Document Format Most publications in Colorado mountain tourist zones have free distribution, while we charge. It isn't entirely out of greed. Our theory is that if you have free distribution, then all your income must come from advertisers, and that means their interest has to come first in making publishing decisions.
We try for a 50-50 income ratio, so that subscribers' interests are just as important. The Latin roots of "subscribe" mean "underwrite," and we like to think of our subscribers as the people who truly "underwrite" this enterprise.

LEAGUE OF WOMEN VOTERS
TO HONOR COMMUNITY LEADER
IN CELEBRATING 90TH ANNIVERSARY
Call for nominations
The League of Women Voters of Chaffee County is seeking nominations for its Making Democracy Work Award, designed to help commemorate the League’s 90th anniversary year. The award, which will honor an individual for his/her community activism will be presented in February, 2010.
“The League of Women Voters has had an impact on national, state and local issues for 90 years. We want to honor that tradition and those who share our passion for making a difference through this award,” said Karen Robinson, president of the Chaffee County League.
Nominations are open to any registered voter who has contributed to our community in a meaningful way. Nominees can apply themselves or may be nominated by a friend, colleague or inspired citizen. To apply, please send a paragraph, including relevant demographic information, stating how the nominee’s participation in and community activities have improved or inspired the lives of Chaffee County residents. Include examples of specific impacts the individual has made, as well as leadership qualities they exhibit. More information can be accessed at the League website at: www.lwvchaffeecounty.blognet.com. Deadline for receiving nominations is December 3. Send nominations to nitannst@gmail.com or mail to LWVCC c/o N. Stevens, 16434 CR 356-10, BV, 81211. If you have further questions, please contact Karen Robinson, 395-3396.
The winner will be announced at an event featuring President Teddy Roosevelt (as portrayed by Salida educator Ed Lambert), to be held in February. “The League of Women Voters is the premier organization where hands-on work leads to civic improvement,” said Karen Robinson. “The LWV celebrates community leaders; individuals who have envisioned a way to improve the community and have mobilized others to work with them to effect a change that has benefited the broader community. This award will honor one such individual that has, in the 90 year League tradition, helped to make our community strong, vibrant and fair.”

Many of you have seen the new major improvements made at the river park this summer, with the addition of 3 new climbing boulders, open park space, trail improvements, new river features and new signage. We are in the final stretch for community fundraising and have come up with a simple goal to raise the last bit of cash needed for our GOCO matching funds.

All donations need to be clean and in reasonable condition. Old outdoor gear, clothing, kitchen ware, shoes, kid’s items, old bikes, skis, paddling gear, etc. Anything that you would find at a typical garage sale can be donated and sold.
Drop off locations-
You can drop off your donated items starting November 4th at 2 convenient locations at the Trailhead at 707 Highway 24 in Buena Vista, and CKS at 327 E Main St in Buena Vista.
