Chaffee County to Celebrate Active Seniors in Engaging in Aging Event

On Saturday, May 19th, from 9am to 4pm, Chaffee County seniors and their family members are invited to attend Engaging in Aging at the Chaffee County Fairgrounds.  Engaging in Aging is a day filled with workshops and activities to connect active adults to community resources and to each other.  The event is completely free thanks to the generosity of many community and regional sponsors.  Workshops include sessions related to sound healing, safety at home, conscious aging, diabetes and nutrition, aging skin and cancer prevention, and estate planning.  Activities planned include bikes for all lifestyles to demo (including electric bikes),

A helicopter from Reach Air Medical to be onsite, pickleball demos, restorative yoga, and fly tying and casting. The shingles and pneumonia vaccines will also be available, so it is important that attendees bring their Medicare and insurance cards.  There will be door prizes given out throughout the day, and table vendors will have giveaways for those who visit them.  Engaging in Aging is a unique event, planned in collaboration with A Little Help, Sage Generation, Chaffee County Public Health, Chaffee County Human Services, Upper Arkansas Area Agency on Aging, and Columbine Manor, that celebrates and explores various opportunities for active seniors.  Free shuttle service will be available, and the complete schedule of events will be published in the newspaper and social media before the event.  “There will be something for everyone at this event.  Whether you consider yourself an active senior or not, you definitely know someone in the community who is.  We encourage family, friends, and neighbors of active older adults to attend, too!” Andrea Carlstrom, Chaffee County Public Health Director. According to Dee Dubin, A Little Help volunteer,  “Engaging in Aging is free and open to the public. There are activities and information for ages from 25 to 105! Discover new activities to enrich your experience here in Chaffee County. Plan on stopping in and spending the day with us.”

The Arkansas River Outfitters Association members are expecting a great rafting season based on several key factors.  The snowpack at the high elevation headwaters remains in good shape despite the low-level snow situation.   We expect moderate flows conducive to fun trips in all sections of the river for the entire season.  The Bureau of Reclamation is planning to import 56,000-acre feet of water from the West Slope and this provides the sustained, augmented flows for the Voluntary Flow Management Plan.  This supplementation enhances the July 1 to August 15 time frame which is the busiest time of the rafting season.  Our reservoirs are full, and that water will have to move adding another factor for a great upcoming season!
