Fun News:

WE MADE THE TORONTO SUN CANADIAN NEWS!

As Director of the Buena Vista Chamber I hold a seat on the Chaffee County Visitor Bureau to represent Buena Vista’s business interests. The CCVB uses the county lodging tax to market the county. In May the CCVB hosted a Familiarization Tour with Canadian press that toured the state of Colorado.  The Canadians participated in various activities including horseback riding and zip lining and were welcomed with a reception which I was able to attend.  At the reception, several members of the press asked why we pronounce Buena Vista the way we do and also said they would have liked to enter some of our historic buildings (the courthouse was closed til Memorial Day).  The fact that I play Cockeyed Liz in the Madams of Central Colorado came up, and this led to a phone interview after the tour.  That interview led to Buena Vista being featured in an article in the Toronto Sun, a major Canadian newspaper.  Free widespread advertising with international exposure – what a great boost for our area!

This also confirms what I have realized all along; not everyone can do the high energy activities.  We also need to preserve our heritage and share it with our visitors.

A Little Help is a nonprofit volunteer based organization that helps the elderly in our community remain in their homes and be an integrated part of our community.  Volunteers work directly with elder members to enhance their lives and open up new possibilities for thriving rather than just surviving.  They offer social opportunities as well as assistance with day to day tasks that have become difficult to do by themselves.

To volunteer, contact Cherith Marchase at 719-239-0295.
