On Saturday, August 5, Salida Aspen Concerts will present an evening of all-Romantic era music played by pianist Joyce Yang, who is often called the best of today’s young pianists.  She will play a selection of short works by 19th century composers Sergei Rachmaninoff, Robert Schumann and Edvard Grieg.  The program will begin at 7:30 p.m. at Salida High School Auditorium, 26 Jones Avenue. Yang, who has played here 11 of the last 12 years, will be interviewed on stage at 6:45 p.m.

Tickets are $15 at the door, but students K-12 get in free, and adults with students pay only $10. The program will be underwritten by High Country Bank. This is the 41st season in which Aspen Music Festival and School has supplied international talent such as Yang to the Salida-based series.

In 2005, Yang hit the headlines at age 19 when she won the silver medal at the 12th Van Cliburn International Piano Competition. Two years later, she began playing at Salida Aspen Concerts. She has performed with the world’s great orchestras and chamber music ensembles including the New York Philharmonic, for whom she has soloed more than 30 times. She will select items among Rachmaninoff’s 24 major piano preludes, Schumann’s 12 virtuosic etudes and Grieg’s 66 lyric pieces.

Tickets and additional information are available on the website www.salidaaspenconcerts.org.
