The Arkansas Valley geologic landscape has been shaped by epic events, including volcanoes, earthquakes, fault lines moving miles, massive glaciers and epic floods.
Central Colorado Conservancy Board president and Professional Geologist Cindy Williams will explain these phenomena in a program titled “Geology, Fire and Ice – Amazing Geologic Events Shaping Local Landscapes” on March 20 from 7 – 8:30 p.m. in the Pinon Room at the Buena Vista Community Center, 715 E Main St.
Beginning with a brief geologic history of the area, Williams will take participants on a virtual tour of phenomena seen in our local landscapes today, explaining how they were formed and what it means about our geologic past and our future. From huge boulders in Buena Vista to the Chalk Cliffs, participants will learn some of the amazing stories our local landforms and geologic features have to tell.
Cost is $5 for Central Colorado Conservancy members, $8 for non-members. Pre-registration is not required. For more information, call 719-539-7700 or email Julie Richardson at firstname.lastname@example.org.
