Gold Rush Days
Gold Rush Days is August 13 & 14 and we’re expecting record crowds. We sold out our vendor spaces and have a waiting list. We’re proud to say this event has a reputation of being in one of the best venues in the area. We’re encouraging all businesses in town to embrace the spirit of Gold Rush Days and participate in the fun! We will have a costume rental company on North Railroad Street from August 7 to August 12 if you need to supplement your wardrobe for the weekend with old west attire. Let’s make Gold Rush Days a town wide event, not just something in the park. Thanks to all of our sponsors for making Gold Rush Days a reality: Nestle Waters, Climax, High Country Bank, Pinon Real Estate, Chaffee County Waste, Heart of the Rockies Radio, Los Girasoles, Heart of the Rockies Regional Medical Center, Chaffee County Habitat, True Value, and CKS.

Tourism Is Up
Summer is in full swing here in Buena Vista and we are just getting started. I left a meeting at 8:15pm at the Courthouse Monday, July 25th and the streets were full of people. There was not a parking spot to be had. We’re receiving nothing but positive feedback in our visitor’s center about all the new and exciting things around town, as well as the landmarks we all know and cherish. The Colorado Tourism Office sent notice that Colorado is breaking the all-time visitor records. The town treasurer said that Buena Vista tax revenue is up 11.09% for the month of May, and up 9.47% from Jan-May 2016. We have been featured in several out of area publications, some as far away as Canada! The website has been performing well! We had 46,977 visitors for the month of July, which is an average of 1515 a day!
Board Members Needed
The Chamber is in need of 5 board members this September. Each seat is a three year term; meetings are the third Wednesday of the month at 5:30pm. If you would like to present and apply all the ideas you have, now is the time to take action; don’t let this opportunity go to waste. We need people with great ideas who are willing to participate in Chamber events and meetings. Don’t just think about it, become a Buena Vista Chamber & Visitor Center board member! You must contact Kathi Perry, Executive Director by September 1, 2016. The positions take effect October, 2016.
2017 Chamber Guide
We are starting to work on our 2017 Buena Vista Chamber Guide that will be distributed in February, 2017. We’ve had rave reviews about this year’s 2016 guide which has been sent to all corners of the state and beyond. Of course, our goal is to make the next one even better, and with your support it will be! Contact the Chamber at 719-395-6612 to be placed on our list to reserve your space and receive details on pricing.
Citizen of the Year
It is also time to be thinking of a Buena Vista citizen who has gone above and beyond with their volunteer work. If you would like to nominate someone who has made a difference in our community, send an email to Kathi Perry at Chamber@BuenaVistaColorado and tell her why. OR, drop a simple letter off at the Chamber nominating that special person.
ATV Historical Color Tour
We have a little time left if you would like to sponsor the ATV Color Tour in September. The deadline is August 15th if you would like to have an ad in the commemorative book, so contact us immediately to be a part of this popular, shoulder season event. We are also looking for non-profits or organizations to serve breakfast for this event as a fund-raiser. We are looking for people to do it on the mornings of Sept. 21-24. Please contact Kathi or Megan at chamber@BuenaVistaColorado.org or marketing@BuenaVistaColorado.org
Thank you to all our members! We could not do what we do without your support!
