Country-Western Dance

Description:  All are welcome to come join us for some country-western dance instruction followed by open country-western dancing to recorded music. Music will be country two-step, waltz, and swing. Lessons will start at 7 pm, followed by open dancing at 7:30 pm at the Poncha Springs Town Hall. Partners are not required. Cost is $5. The dance is sponsored by Arkansas Valley Music and Dance.

CHAFFEE COUNTY CRIME STOPPERS MEDIA RELEASE  04/17/2017-04/18/2017 Case Report #17-0852

The Salida Police Department is asking for the public’s help in two different burglary cases that occurred in the late night hours of April 17th, 2017 into the early morning hours of April 18th, 2017. The suspect(s) entered two different construction sites within the City of Salida and stole an assortment of tools from those sites. It is believed that the suspect(s) drove a vehicle to each location where the burglaries occurred. The types of tools taken consisted of power tools, a generator, hand tools and screw guns. All of the stolen tools had a variety of brand names and serial numbers. The estimated value of the stolen tools at both construction sites was about $2000.00.  If you have any information in reference to the burglaries or the identity of the suspect(s), please contact the Chaffee County Crime Stoppers at (719) 539-5299.

Crime Stoppers offers cash rewards up to $1,000 for information that leads to the arrest of the person or persons responsible for crimes. BV street constructionProject Update for the Week of April 23, 2017:

STAY INFORMED: This is for the US 24 Buena Vista Project

Construction work continues on the Buena Vista Enhancement Project along US 24 between Mill Street and Crossman Avenue. Activities include the installation of new concrete curbs, gutters, utility conduits, sidewalks and other roadway features. Paving operations on the east side of US 24 are underway. The current priority is the construction of driveways and sidewalks on the east side of US 24. 

  • Traffic is currently shifted to the west side of US 24, with one lane open in each direction. There is a right lane closure on southbound US 24 at the City Market, and one of the two entrances to the business is also closed. 
  • Please note working hours are now Monday thru Saturday from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM, as weather allows.
  • Cottonwood Avenue, located to the east of US 24, is closed due to culvert repairs. Cedar Street will also be closed this week.
  • In the future, crews will require a full closure of the US 24 / Main Street intersection. We will provide further updates in our subsequent emails.

GARNA Bloomin’ Fundraiser now through May 9  – GARNA is partnering with Salida Greenhouse to sell annual flower bowls, hanging tomato plants and vegetable and herb starters to help welcome spring and celebrate Mother’s Day. With every purchase of these colorful arrangements, Salida Greenhouse is graciously donating a generous portion of the proceeds to GARNA to support youth and community programs and projects. Three options are available: 14 inch annual flower bowls with colorful varieties, 12 inch hanging baskets of Tumbling Tom tomatoes and individual vegetable and herb starter plants. *MEDIA ALERT* CDOT Warns Public of Phone Scam
The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) is warning the public about a current phone scam. Multiple community members have reporting that they were contacted by a person claiming to be a CDOT representative. The caller states that they are conducting a survey on behalf of CDOT and requesting personal information such as date of birth, driver’s license number and address.

When the community members refuse to give any information, they have been threatened with deportation.  “We are cautioning the public: Do not provide any information about yourself to anyone over the phone. The Colorado Department of Transportation would never ask for personal information or threaten deportation,” said Gina Talmadge, CDOT Customer Service Manager. “We want to assure the public that CDOT is conducting no such survey, and ask that you protect yourself by never providing personal information to strangers.”

WHAT YOU CAN DO:  Ask for the individual’s name, phone number, hang up and immediately report the information to the Colorado Department of Transportation, 303-757-9011.
