Historic Cemetery Tour Offers glimpse of past

Step Back into the 1880’s and meet the first citizens of Buena Vista. Alsina Dearheimer, the mother of Buena Vista and the lady who named the town, will guide you through the cemetery and tell you about the folks that are buried there. Cockeyed Liz, the famous town madam, will tell you how she began in Buena Vista and how she ended. Meet the proper Martha and John McPhelemy who were prominent citizens who donated property for the town and parks. Hear the story of John Clifford ….and how he was murdered. Learn why burros were more important than the miners. Sympathize with Mary Magdalene Ditmore as she tells of her woeful existence. Meet Abner Wright, owner of the Mary Murphy Mine in St. Elmo, as he tells you of his long and successful life.
Meet the above historic citizens and more. All information is accurate and gives you a sense of the real people of history. Proceeds benefit Buena Vista Heritage. Just meet at Mt. Olivet Cemetery on June 18 (7pm), July 3 (10pm), July 10 (3pm), August 8 (7pm), or September 11 (3pm). The cost is $8 for adults, $5 for children. BVHeritage members receive a discount.
