Rafting In The Buena Vista Area

Buena Vista “The Whitewater Capital of the World” is located adjacent to the Arkansas River. More whitewater rafters and kayakers float the Arkansas than any other river in the world! Most Arkansas River visitors base their adventure in Buena Vista since the most popular sections of this 100-mile dream destination are within a few minutes drive of the downtown area.
The ‘pool and drop’ nature of Browns Canyon, located just south of Buena Vista makes it the most popular choice for a half or full day adventures on the Arkansas River. Exciting yet manageable whitewater here makes Browns Canyon suitable for any experience level and for children as young as 7 years old.
Just North of Buena Vista are the wildest sections of the river, more suited to serious thrill seekers. Sections north of the town include Pine Creek, The Numbers and The Narrows. Bigger drops and powerful hydraulics make create explosive rapids that will satisfy the most experienced whitewater fans.
100 miles of whitewater begin in Buena Vista and floats can continue all the way downstream to the Royal Gorge near Canon City. Fantastic overnight adventures lasting of up 5 days cover the entire distance. Rafting outfitters operating on the Arkansas River offer camping based trips or luxury inn based overnight trips to suit every skill level and every pocketbook.
